Campana Brothers

Continuing its program of exhibitions focussing on contemporary designers, from 13 September 2012 to 24 February 2013, the Arts Décoratifs’ Contemporary Gallery is giving carte blanche to Fernando and Humberto Campana, the Brazilian designers famous for their original creations and recycling of objects. Their eclectic, iconoclastic and exuberant creations are steeped in the vibrant atmosphere of their home country. Revealed to the public by the Italian design publishers Edra, Fontana Arte and Alessi and by their collaborations with Maison Bernardaud and Lacoste, in only a few years the brothers Campana have become the leading ambassadors of Brazilian design.

Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs
9 March–16 september 2012

This exhibition tells the stories of two men, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs (artistic director of LV).
It will bring to light their contributions to the fashion world.
How did they succeed in taking the pulse of their respective periods, innovate and take the fashion industry forward?
How did these two personalities, each with their own idiosyncratic language proceeded? This belongs to the history of contemporary fashion now.
With this analysis rather than a retrospective, this parallel Vuitton/Jacobs comparison will provide new insight into the fashion system during its pivotal periods, beginning with its industrialisation and ending with its globalization while focussing on its artistic professions and crafts, technological advances, stylistic creations and artistic collaborations.
It will also be homecoming for Louis Vuitton, who set up shop only a stone’s throw away from the Louvre, home to his first great patron, Empress Eugénie.
